ST BENEDICT VS FLORENTIUS
As St Benedict became an influence amongst many monks, so many other monks and abbots were filled with jealousy. When the abbot of a monastery in a neighboring town had died, the monks begged him to become their abbot. At first St Benedict thought that they would have different beliefs and thought that it would be hard to convince them to follow his teachings, but finally he decided to give a consent .He did not take the consent seriously and he cheated on those monks and villagers. An infamous and jealous priest from the same community named Florentius decided to put a poisoned drink inside his cave. It became a miracle, when Benedict had prayed over the wine and it shattered into broken glass. Then they tried to poison him with a loaf of bread, but he prayed over the bread and it was taken away by a black bird. St. Benedict decided to leave that part of Monte Cassino to prevent further harassment to the monks. As he left the valley, Florentius stood on his balcony staring at St. Benedict in anger. The balcony collapsed and Florentius got crushed to death as a punishment from god.
